Comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas figured in a tussle with Lee Min Ho fans after writing on social media that the Korean actor’s new series The King: Eternal Monarch was, as far as she’s concerned…underwhelming.
“THE KING on Netflix… if Lee Min Ho wasn’t starring in this, I would never have bothered, sorry but it wasn’t that great, this show didn’t do it for my taste, I was disappointed,” delas Alas wrote on her Instagram account yesterday.
“You couldn’t understand the flow of this [K]orean novela, was it science fiction? Action? Love story?” delas Alas said, and added that there appeared to be a lot of ad placements throughout the series, from coffee brands to energy drinks, and even makeup.
“[T]hey should have thought of making the story better, before they thought about the money,” she lamented.
The 55-year-old actress said however, that she learned that the series’ scriptwriter Kim Eun-sook was the creator of other K-dramas such as Guardian, Mr. Sunshine, and Descendants of the Sun.
“She was great [in those]…so what happened?” the actress asked. “I really am confused why [this show] trended on number two [on Netflix Philippines].”
“This is sad. Sorry, you’re [Lee Min Ho] a very good actor, and you’re my idol, but the story falls really flat,” she concluded, and even tagged Lee Min Ho on her post.
Lee’s legion of fans had several things to say about the actress, of course, which may have led delas Alas to disable the comments on her post.
On Twitter, meanwhile, users like @suniyaa3 were quick to scathingly point out, “Dear Ai Ai delas Alas, You have no right to criticize this drama…you can’t even produce a good film yourself.”
“Also the nerve to tag [Lee Min Ho], are you that close?” she added.
DEAR AI AI DELAS ALAS,
YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS TO CRITICIZE THIS DRAMA BECAUSE IT'S ONLY FOR THOSE WHO USES THEIR BRAINS. YOU CAN'T EVEN PRODUCE A GOOD FILM FOR YOURSELF. SLOW-WITTED-ENTITLED UNTALENTED BISH.
kapal ng mukha ng tag pa, close kayo? #TheKingEternalMonarch

@DearKume took the diplomatic route, but also couldn’t resist coming after the actress’ films.
“Ai Ai delas Alas has all the right to express her opinion, but I think it’s very odd and distasteful hearing such scathing comments from someone whose films are 90 – 95% crap,” she wrote.
I understand that Ai Ai Delas Alas has all the right to express her opinion; but I think it's very odd and distasteful hearing such scathing comments from someone whose films are 90-95% crap. Why can't people like Erik Matti and Ai Ai just leave KDramas alone?

Delas Alas, who has been working in the biz since the 1980s, has starred in a string of box office comedies, including Ang Tanging Ina (“The Only Mother”) which has spawned several sequels. Though it may have bode well with the viewing public, the movie was panned by film critics.
Last month, director Erik Matti also came under fire with K-drama fans after he tweeted that local movies and TV shows “are doomed” because K-dramas have been consistently the most viewed shows on Netflix.
