Comelec Cebu City: Registration of new voters to start on Dec. 12

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu City is ready for the upcoming registration of new voters, which will start on December 12, 2022, and end on January 31, 2023.

That way they can vote during the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections on October 30, according to lawyer Marchel Sarno, north district election officer.

Sarno said those who are 15 years old and above can register.

He said they must present their identification card, birth certificate and barangay certificate when doing so.

Lawyer Ferdinand Gujilde, acting south district election officer, said the Comelec Cebu City will open satellite registration booths at malls to accommodate more people.

He said they will also go to barangays to make it easier for individuals to register.

Apart from new registration, the Comelec will also process applications for transfer of registration but only within the 80 barangays of the city is allowed.

Registration will start at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, including holidays, except on December 24 and 31.

The Comelec Cebu City has around 800,000 voters of which 340,000 are from the north district.

Sarno and Gujilde said they expect the number to go up after the registration period. (PAC, PJB)
