Comelec extends posting of voter's list for BSKE

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu Provincial Office has decided to extend the posting of voter's list to September 30 so that public funds intended for printing would not be wasted in case the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) will not push through.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 13, passed on second reading a measure seeking to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled on December 5, 2022 to December 4, 2023.

Comelec Cebu said the decision came as the filing of certificate of candidacy for BSKE is about to start on October 6.

Lawyer Lionel Castillano, election supervisor of Comelec Cebu Province, said that even if the BSKE will be postponed, the Comelec will still continue registering voters, thus the need for additional funding for the said undertaking.

"If ever kung gusto nila i-postpone, they should do it the soonest..." according to Castillano on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

"If ever ma-postpone, we would need additional budget kay mopadayon man mi sa pagparehistro (because we will proceed with the registration). Madugangan ang botante, madugangan ang clustered precincts, poll watchers, election paraphernalia ug ang honorarium sa mga poll watchers, logistics pod," Castillano added.

The congressional session is expected to end on the last week of September, wherein the final decision on whether or not to hold the BSKE this coming December is expected to be known.

Once approved during the third and final reading, the measure will be forwarded to the Senate before it will be signed by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

"Hopefully, naa nata'y clear signal if mapasar ba gyud nila ang balaudnon pag-postpone because Comelec itself don't want nga maka-waste mi og government funds...That is why ang printing sa voters list giuswag kay if i-postpone ma-utro naman pod ang voter's list," Castillano said.

The Comelec has already got P8.4 billion budget for the BSKE. (ANV, TPT)
