The gun ban started last January 13 with intensified monitoring and establishment of checkpoints set up by the poll body and manned by the Philippine National Police (PNP) around the country, including Region, that is, Western Visayas, to preempt the proliferation of unlicensed firearms.

Of the 311 gun ban violators apprehended in Western Visayas, 301 were civilians and five members of the Philippine National Police, two are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and three government officials who were apprehended for their unlicensed firearms.

Slapped with cases were 244 violators, 47 are under investigation, five with dismissed cases, 28 under bail and 36 acquitted after an investigation.
