Comelec Set For ARMM Registration

COTABATO CITY (PNA) - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said all is set for the general voters' registration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) from July 9 to 18, 2012.

For his part, Provincial Elections Officer Atty. Udtog Tago disclosed in an interview that data results which the General Voters Registration may generate will supersede the 2010 voters list, which had been stained by irregularities.

Tago said the procurement of the 332 machines to be utilized for the re-registration with a corresponding generator each has already been awarded much earlier by the Comelec central office to a supplying contractor to ensure on-time delivery of the units to designated cluster areas.

The 10-day voters' registration period for ARMM is said to be sufficient to cover the entire number of the region's registrants in a bid to cleanse its electoral records for subsequent polling.

"An estimate of 170 registrants per day will be catered by each machine, while each election assistants could process on 200 applications daily. Around 1,700 applicants will be served by each machine in 10 days, reassuring ample time to accommodate all qualified registrants," Tago said.
