MANILA, Philippines - Instead of 12 midnight, the filing of the certificates of candidacy (COC) on October 1 to 5 for the May 2013 polls is only until 5 p.m.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes revealed this information Tuesday using his new twitter account @chairbrillantes.
"Filing of COCs for 2013 elections will be from Oct. 1-5, 2012 and only until 5 pm for the five-day period - no longer until 12 midnight," he said.
Commissioner Rene Sarmiento, for his part, said there is no need to wait until 12 midnight for would be candidates to file their COC's since the five-day period to file given to them is more than enough.
"In the past elections, up to midnight. Up to 5 pm is good," he said.
"No more last minute rush. Why midnight when you can file earlier?" added Sarmiento.
The poll official was referring to the habit of some candidates in the past to file their COC's at the last minute.
By filing early, Sarmiento said, candidates are setting a good example to the people.
