THREE ushers of the numbers game swertres were arrested on separate occasions by members of the Compostela Police Station and operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) Central Visayas on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

The operation against illegal gambling was led by Lieutenant Andrew Rellanos, the northern town’s chief of police.

They first raided a swertres outlet in Sitio Bali-bali, Barangay Cogon around 5:30 p.m. where they collared Lalaine Coca Ruta, a 46-year-old resident of Barangay Basak, Compostela.

At 6 p.m., police raided a swertres outlet in Sitio Ylaya, Barangay Canamucan where they placed into custody Marigen Tejero Cosipag, 34, also a resident of Barangay Basak.

Ten minutes later, they arrested 26-year-old Rose Arena Tangaro inside a swertres outlet in Sitio Aggies, Barangay Poblacion.

During the anti-gambling operation, police recovered P760 in cash, tally sheets and pens.

The three women will be charged with violating Republic Act 9287, “an Act increasing the penalties for illegal numbers games, amending certain provisions of Presidential Decree 1602, and for other purposes.”

They are currently held at the Compostela Police Station.

Authorities had announced that only the Saturn Gaming N’ Amusement Corp. is authorized by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to operate swertres or STL in Cebu Province.
