The Consolacion Sarok Weavers pulled off an escape act once again as they got past the Asturias Corn Ranchers, 68-65, in the Pilipinas Super League 21-Under VisMin Leg on Sunday at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Sports and Cultural Center in Bogo City.
The Sarok Weavers moved to 3-0, good for the best record in the tournament. Consolacion’s victories so far have been by four points or less.
It was another hard-earned victory for the Sarok Weavers which trailed, 60-65, after a bucket by Asturias’ Vince Mananquil. However, Consolacion amped its defense up and held the Corn Ranchers scoreless the rest of the way, while also getting crucial baskets from Matt Flores, Rovello Robles, and Keaton Taburnal to pick up the win.
A jumper from the left wing and a free-throw by Flores shoved the Sarok Weavers in front, 66-65. Asturias had numerous shots at retaking the lead but missed and Consolacion took advantage with Keaton Taburnal scoring on a short jumper off an offensive rebound to give them a 68-65 lead with 7.3 seconds remaining.
The Corn Ranchers had one last chance at tying the match, but AJ Sacayan missed his three-point try to hand the Sarok Weavers the win.
Flores and Robles had double-doubles in the victory, with the former getting 18 points and 11 rebounds, and the latter finishing with 18 markers and 10 rebounds. Paolo Dalumpines added 10 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Mananquil paced Asturias with 12 points, while Den Rick Orgong, Aeron Aparicio, and Sacayan had 11 points each.
