Consolacion reclamation project hits snag

·1 min read

THE controversial 235.8-hectare reclamation project in Barangay Tayud, Consolacion town in northern Cebu hit a snag after the project's objectors submitted a position

paper stating that the project failed to comply with the needed requirements.

To recall, the officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Central Office conducted a public hearing between the project's proponents and

objectors at the Consolacion Municipal Hall on June 14, 2022.

During the hearing, the granting of an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the reclamation project was left undone after the opponents were given at least

seven days to craft a position paper and provide evidence why the said project must not continue.

In their position paper submitted on June 21, the opponents, specifically represented by the shipyard owners in Barangay Tayud, reiterated that the proponents of the

reclamation project failed to adhere to the standard processes required to be granted an ECC.
