The Consolacion Sarok Weavers moved on to the finals of the 1st Mayor Irish Gestopa Inter-Town Invitational Basketball Tournament after it defeated Carmen, 99-86, in the semifinals at the Catmon gym last Sunday, January 26, 2020.
The score was tied after the first canto but Consolacion started to gain steam in the second, and surged in front, 54-45. The third was when the Sarok Weavers hit their stride as they outgunner their opponents, 31-21, to establish an imposing 85-66 lead heading to the game’s last stanza.
Lyceum of the Philippines University star Patrick Gyle Montano helped carry the load for Consolacion as he put up a lofty double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds to go with seven assists.
Brevin Padayogdog and Rovello Robles had 14 points apiece with the former adding nine boards. Cebu Institute of Technology-University guard JC Escalona almost had a triple-double with 12 points, 11 assists and six rebounds while University of the Visayas sniper Froiland Maglasang tallied 10 points, seven boards and five dimes.
Dennis Jayson led Carmen with 23 points.
Consolacion will be taking on A&B Borbon Selection in the finals on Thursday, January 30, 2020. A&B will feature the core of the Cesafi-title winning Southwestern University-Phinma such as Dyll Roncal, William Polican and Red Cachuela. It also has the two Most Valuable Player award winners in the Cesafi last season —Shaquille Imperial and LA Casinillo. (JNP)
