ONLY the carpentry works on the interiors of the third and fourth floors of the Cebu City Medical Center would be fully completed by project contractor M.E. Sicat Construction on October 28, 2022.

The contractor has already built the first seven floors of the public hospital.

Engineer Lowell Corminal, in-charge of the city's Department of Engineering and Public Works, when asked by Mayor Michael Rama, said he was confident that the third and fourth floors of the building can already be used by October 28, which falls on the birthday of Mayor Rama.

But Michael Sicat, owner of the construction company, said that they could not finish the construction of eighth to tenth floors of CCMC on a given time frame since they still have to check the columns in the building and retrofit the structure when needed based on the results of their study.

Mayor Rama earlier warned that he will cancel the contract with M.E. Sicat Construction if the latter fails to complete the construction of the 10-story CCMC before October 28, 2022.

The P916.8-million contract to build the phase 4 of the CCMC was awarded to M.E. Sicat on April 6, 2022. (PAC, TPT)
