Councilor: Contractor to address ‘mud problem’ at new Sinulog Grand Parade venue

AN OFFICIAL of the Cebu City Government has assured spectators of Sinulog 2023 at the South Road Properties that improvements are being made to address the condition of the ground when it rains.

Councilor Phillip Zafra, Sinulog 2023 executive committee chairman, said Thursday, January 5, 2023, that the contractor of the venue is overlaying gravel and other materials to make the area less muddy during and after a downpour.

Zafra acknowledged that some people are criticizing the decision of the City Government to hold the Sinulog at the SRP after the two-year hiatus brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Kung unsa ilang nakita, atoa sad nang nakita (We saw what they’ve seen) ... the human instinct about comfort, hilabi na kung naay ikakumpara nga gibalhin gyud from Abellana (especially if there is something to compare it to after being moved from Abellana) (Cebu City Sports Center). Well, moabot gyud sa punto nga naa gyud mga (it will come to a point that there will be) changes,” said Zafra.

The councilor added that there are still enough days before the Sinulog Grand Parade on January 15 to prepare the venue. (IRT, PJB)
