More than 91,000 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus globally as the illness continues to spread.

China has been the worst hit, with more than 80,000 cases reported, the majority of which are in the province of Hubei where the outbreak originated.

Cases have been confirmed in more than 60 countries, and every country in Western Europe has been hit.

The EU raised the risk level of infection on Monday from moderate to high.

More than 3,100 people have died from coronavirus. These are the countries that have seen fatalities from the illness, according to Johns Hopkins University.


China has been worst hit by the outbreak of coronavirus. More than 2,900 people have died in the country, at least 2,800 of which were in Hubei, the province at the epicentre of the epidemic.

New infections now appear to be easing in China. On Monday China reported 202 new cases, its lowest daily count since 21 January.


Iranian authorities said on Tuesday that 77 people have died, and the country has 2,336 cases of the new coronavirus.

Iran’s supreme leader has ordered the country’s armed forces to assist its health ministry in combating the spread of the virus.

According to Iranian media, 23 MPs have contracted the virus.


Northern Italy has seen a severe outbreak of coronavirus. The death toll on Monday was 52, and the number of cases passed the 2,000 mark. It is the worst affected country in Europe.

The UK government is advising against all but essential travel to the north of Italy and advises travellers returning from there to self-isolate if they show symptoms.

South Korea

Almost 1,000 people have confirmed cases of coronavirus in South Korea, and at least 34 people have died.

Speaking on Tuesday, president Moon Jae-in apologised for shortages of face masks and “declared war” on the illness.

He said: "The entire country has entered war against the infectious disease as the crisis in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province has reached the highest point.”


At least six people have died of coronavirus in Japan.

A spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee said on Tuesday that the organisation in confident the Tokyo Olympics will still go ahead in 2020, after speculation the mass event would need to be postponed or cancelled.


More than 100 people in 11 states have been diagnosed with coronavirus, and the death toll rose to six on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump and his cabinet met with pharmaceutical executives on Monday to discuss how to speed up the search for a vaccine.


France has seen three deaths from coronavirus. It was the first country in Europe to report a fatality after a Chinese tourist died there in February.

The government has cancelled all indoor gatherings involving more than 5,000 people in an effort to contain the spread.

Hong Kong

Two people have died from coronavirus in Hong Kong. There have been reports of panic buying and shortages of face masks.

All transport to mainland China has been suspended, and schools and businesses have been shut down.


Australia saw its first death from coronavirus on Saturday, after a man who was a passenger on the Diamond Princess cruise ship died from the illness.

The 78-year-old died in hospital in Perth. His wife also contracted the virus but is in a stable condition.


The first death from coronavirus outside China was reported in the Philippines in early February. The patient was a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan, the centre where the virus was first detected.


Taiwan reported a death from coronavirus on 16 February, which was the fifth fatality outside mainland China.


Thailand reported a fatality from coronavirus on Sunday. According to the country’s department of disease control, the 35-year-old man also tested positive for dengue fever.
