Covid-19 task force approves bubble setup for Olympic-bound Pinoy athletes

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has given the green light for Olympic-bound Filipino athletes to train under a “bubble” setup, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced.

“The implementation of a bubble-type setting will be done in coordination with the regional task force and the local government unit of the place where the training will be done,” said Roque of Resolution 88.

This development is a welcome one for national athletes, whose training has been halted due to the global health crisis and the subsequent lockdowns that have been implemented all over the country.

Solid showing

The country is looking for a solid showing in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics that has been rescheduled to July 2021 after it was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The only Olympic-bound athlete who is training here in the Philippines is boxer Irish Magno.

Other qualified athletes such as gymnast Caloy Yulo, boxer Eumir Marcial and pole vaulter EJ Obiena are all training in foreign countries. / JNP
