OFFICIALS of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) recorded a total of 324,931 passengers in Cebu seaports during its “Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2022” from April 10 to 18.

The number of passengers this year increased by over 100 percent compared to the 151,000 inbound and outbound passengers during the Holy Week 2021 observance, CPA officials said on Tuesday, April 19.

Based on CPA’s consolidated report, a total of 166,039 inbound passengers and 158,892 outbound passengers trooped to Cebu’s seaports to return to their hometowns or spend their vacation in time for the Holy Week.

Despite the influx of passengers, CPA reported that the observance of the Holy Week in Cebu’s ports was “generally peaceful.”

CPA has jurisdiction over the four domestic ports at the Cebu baseport in Cebu City and the 12 subports situated in Cebu Province.

The implementation of Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2022 was in close coordination with Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Maritime Industry Authority, partner local government units and partner cargo handling service providers. (JKV)
