A POLICE official is seeking to declare the Talisay City, Cebu village of Tanke as a discipline zone.
This was suggested by Cebu Police Provincial Office Director Roderick Mariano after his meeting with the Tanke barangay officials on Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, 2020. The village had been described by authorities as haven of drug trafficking and other illegal activities.
If the Talisay City Government approves Mariano’s plan, more police officers will patrol in Tanke, implementing local and national laws.
During the Wednesday meeting, Mariano was accompanied by Talisay City Police Chief Gerard Ace Pelare. They assessed the police-initiated programs in Tanke, including the round-the-clock checkpoint at the entrance and exit points of the village.
In the coming days, the police officials said more personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion will be deployed in the barangay.
The latest move that Pelare initiated was visiting the houses of Tanke residents. The police first visited 111 families in sitios Rattan and Kilawan, and they interviewed 891 individuals.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, the police will conduct an inventory on the fishing boats and they will profile the fishermen to prevent them from engaging in any illegal activity.
A cleanup drive will also be implemented in Tanke on the same day. (FMD / KAL)
