THE Creamline Cool Smashers debuted in style as they took care of Sta. Lucia, 25-18, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
The victory extended Creamline’s incredible winning run to 21 games dating back to the 2019 tournament, which they swept en route to capturing the crown. Former La Salle standout Michelle Gumabao was prolific against Sta. Lucia as she racked up 24 points, built on 21 attacks, two aces as well as a block.
She was also pivotal down the stretch, scoring two straight points to quell a Sta. Lucia rally in the fourth set before Jeanette Panaga finished things off with a running attack.
Afterward, Gumabao said she’s grateful that all their hard work is paying off.
“I’m just really thankful, we’ve been all working hard for this and we’ve been training hard. Ang gusto lang talaga namin, whatever we’re training maipakita namin sa game and it was a good game, but it’s only our first game there’s a long way to go so we can’t be complacent,” said Gumabao who added that they have no time to celebrate as they have to prepare for their next opponent.
“We can’t really be happy with the win because we have to practice again tomorrow for our next opponent so it’s a really fast tournament so kailangan move on kami agad,” added Gumabao.
Former Ateneo superstar Alyssa Valdez finished with 20 points on 17 attacks and three rejections. (JNP)
