Crew and Passengers Rescued Before Yacht Sinks Off Italian Coast

Footage released by the Italian coast guard on August 22 shows the moment a yacht sank off the coast of Italy, near Crotone.

The coast guard said it coordinated the rescue operations of passengers and crew of a 40-meter yacht, which sank nine miles (14.5 km) offshore from Catanzaro Marina. An investigation into the incident was launched, it said.

According to local news reports, the first four passengers and a crew member were rescued by a patrol boat and brought to Catanzaro Marina. A tug boat subsequently arrived and rescued the other four crew members. However, difficult weather conditions meant the yacht could not be towed to a port in Crotone and it sank.
