THE Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) has advanced to the national stage of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) U-19 National Championship Division 2 after finishing as the best team of Group E.

CVFA defeated Kaya FC-Iloilo, 3-1, on June 22 at the Cebu City Sports Center and finished unbeaten in the Visayas Leg.

Striker Keenen Cergneux got CVFA going early on and scored a quick goal in the seventh minute. Fellow former Cebu FC striker Yoji Selman added another goal in the 43rd minute and Paul Mapula made it a 3-0 lead for CVFA just before halftime with a goal in the 45th minute.

Midfielder Julian Romero finally scored for Kaya FC in the 62nd minute.

Kaya FC, however, never really came close and bowed down to its toughest rival CVFA.

CVFA finished at the top with nine points and advanced to Group B of the national stage. CVFA will be joined by the winners of Group F, Group G and Group H. The teams will be playing a single round-robin, wherein the best team will be the Visayas-Mindanao winner and will be promoted to Division 1.

“It was an impressive performance. The game plan was executed well and the players did their homework,” CVFA team manager Jhojo Partosa told SunStar Cebu. “We will double our effort in the next stage.”

Meanwhile, Negros Oriental-Siquijor Regional Football Association didn’t go out of the tournament winless with a 3-0 win over Eastern Visayas Regional Football Association.

Christian Lajot scored in the 65th minute, Earl Bandoquillo in the 83rd and Rafael Wandeler in the 88th.
