Cyclists, joggers urged: Wear your masks, travel in pairs, or else

STARTING Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, police officers in Cebu City will start issuing citation tickets to cyclists and joggers who are caught not wearing masks and traveling in groups.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO)’s Traffic Enforcement Unit will be patrolling the streets to monitor the compliance with minimum health protocols by leisure bikers and joggers.

Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, said their deployment of the TEU is due to reports the police have received that some bikers and joggers don’t follow minimum health protocols while they are on the streets.

Parilla reminded bikers and joggers to wear masks and ride or jog only in pairs.

The new policy was implemented after the Inter- Agency Task Force (IATF) placed Cebu City under general community quarantine from Sept. 8 to 30.

The TEU will also check popular biking spots in the City where cyclists and joggers would often converge to eat.

“We will check on these establishments where cyclists and joggers would often converge and check if they are observing physical distancing. If they are caught violating these policies we have put in place, they will be brought to the Ramos Gym where they will be issued with a citation ticket. If they fail to pay the fines issued to them, we will file a criminal case against them,” Parilla said, in Cebuano. (AYB / JKV)
