THE Danao City-MJAS Zenith picked up their second straight win with an 89-80 win over the Immaculada Concepcion College (ICC) Blue Hawks in the Filbasket Summer Championship on Tuesday at the San Jose del Monte City Sports Complex.

The win was crucial for Danao City as it bumped their record to 3-6, keeping them in the hunt for a playoff spot. ICC, on the other hand, remained winless at 0-10.

Down one late in the game, hardworking forward Felix Apreku hauled down an offensive rebound and got fouled with 18 seconds remaining. He then calmly canned two pressure-packed free-throws to put Danao City in front, 81-80.

Danao’s defense then went to work, denying the Blue Hawks a good look at the basket and forcing a 24-second shot clock violation. It was then when things got heated as ICC’s Jake Gaspay gave a hard foul to Danao City guard Andrey Armenion. Reeve Ugsang then went to his teammate’s defense, causing a commotion that saw the latter and several ICC players get ejected from the ballgame.

When the dust settled, Armenion and Patrick Cabahug shot eight straight free-throws to ice the win.

Cabahug led the way for Danao City with 34 points, highlighted by seven three-pointers.

Armenion once again flirted with another triple-double with his 14 assists, 13 points, and seven rebounds. Jordan Rios came off the bench and scored 12, while Brylle Meca and Apreku added 11 and 10 points, respectively, the latter also grabbing 12 boards. (JNP)
