Danao City residents can get vaccinated against Covid-19 at home

THE Danao City Government started conducting house-to-house vaccinations against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

City health personnel went around houses to check if their occupants were vaccinated.

“Some people don’t have the time to go or cannot go to the City Health Services Office (CHSO) so the Danao City Covid-19 vaccination team will go to them,” the City posted on social media in Cebuano.

According to Michelle Mondigo, head of the City Information Office, they already conducted barangay vaccinations so they could reach out to people who are still having second thoughts about getting vaccinated.

“We usually target senior citizens because many of them have a negative reception of the vaccine. In fact, before the house-to-house, city health conducted a barangayan vaccination. We even provided incentives like rice to those who agreed to be vaccinated but there were few takers which is why we resorted to conducting house-to-house vaccinations,” Mondigo said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

The City wants to achieve herd immunity by vaccinating at least 70 percent of its population. Based on its data, only 65.5 percent are fully vaccinated.

Mondigo said many residents of mountain barangays are convinced that they don’t need to be vaccinated because they live far from the city center where there are many people.

She said the City also targets to deliver booster shots to 108,307 individuals during its house-to-house drive.

Aside from conducting house-to-house vaccinations, the City also distributed free Covid-19 vaccines to business establishments.

“On the other hand, we accept walk-ins (for first dose, second dose and booster shots) at the CHSO from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, except on holidays,” the City posted in Cebuano.

The City called on residents who have yet to be vaccinated to get one, as vaccines have proven to be effective at preventing severe disease, hospitalization and death from Covid-19.(ANV)
