Dasmariñas inches closer to big fight

INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 1 ranked Michael Dasmarinas keeps himself busy as he takes on Thai prospect Chaiwat Buatkrathok on March 16 at the City Plaza of San Fernando City in La Union.

Dasmarinas is inching closer to a world title shot, a mandatory fight for the IBF belt currently around the waist of Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue, who’s currently slated to fight Johnriel Casimero in a three-title unification.

The 27-year-old Dasmarinas fought twice in 2019 and won against tough Kenny Demecillo and Thai Artid Bamrungauea.

He outclassed Demecillo by unanimous decision in an IBF title eliminator and then stopped Bamrungauea in five rounds.

Buatkrathok, on the other hand, lost both of his bouts in 2019 but bounced back with a win early in 2020. He dropped a unanimous decision in the hands of Olimjon Nazarov and lost via a sixth round technical knockout against Reymart Gaballo before winning a sixth round stoppage against Thammarat Chaowanakit just last Feb. 20, 2020.

Dasmarinas is 30-2-1 with 20 knockouts, while Buatkrathok is 33-3 with 21 knockouts.

Meanwhile, Ryan Torres (9-2-1, 8 KOs) faces off with Philippines-based Japanese Kyota Otsuka (6-6-2, 4 KOs) in the main supporting bout of the show co-promoted by Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions and Hardstone Monis Promotions. (EKA)
