Datuk Michelle Yeoh now 'Datuk Seri'

24 May – Recently, Malaysia's very own international star Datuk Michelle Yeoh was awarded the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak, which carries the title 'Datuk Seri' by Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah during the investiture ceremony in conjunction with His Royal Highness' 84th birthday last Tuesday.

Yeoh revealed that she was surprised when she first heard the news from her mother.

"I was filming in Thailand when I got a call from my mother, Datin Janet Yeoh."

"She excitedly told me to be back today to receive the award," said the Ipoh-born actress.

Upon learning the news, Yeoh flew back to Malaysia from Bangkok, where she was shooting for a film to attend the ceremony at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

"I was really nervous as I did not attend the rehearsals," uttered Yeoh when she recounted the moment she had to walk up to Sultan Azlan Shah to receive the award.

When asked how she felt about receiving the honoured award, Yeoh voiced her gratitude and delight.

It was definitely a proud moment for Yeoh and a well-deserved one, following her stunning portrayal of Aung San Suu Kyi, a respected Burmese opposition politician and General Secretary of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Burma in "The Lady".
