INCUMBENT Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak filed his certificate of candidacy on Thursday afternoon, October 7, 2021.
Tumulak is running independently for the City mayorship in the May 2022 elections.
"Duna koy CONA, but I will not use this Cona para pagpakita sa atong mga katawhan nga mas maayo nga independente para sa kaayuhan, madato kag ma pobre, unsay mga political color andam ko makighiusa nilang tanan," he told members of Cebu media on Thursday.
CONA stands for Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance.
Before filing his COC, Tumulak attended a mass celebrated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma in Holy Cross Parish in Barangay Basak, Cebu City.
Tumulak said he will serve as an alternative for the Cebuanos who wants to experience a new brand of leadership other than the known political clans in the City.
He said he is confident that even with his lack of campaign materials, his name resounds in the heart of the Cebuanos.
He said should he be given the opportunity to lead the City, he will be prioritizing food security programs and health through provision of free medicine.
He said he is thankful of the leadership of the Osmeñas and the Ramas, but he is more grateful of the Cebuanos as whatever the City's progress is, he said, he owe it to the Cebuanos more than the leaders.
He said he finalized his decision to run for mayor the other day, Tuesday.
Tumulak will be up against Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama and former Cebu City councilor Margot Osmeña, the wife of former Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
The Osmeñas, along with aspirants under Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan, filed their COCs on Thursday morning.
Rama, along with his entire line up of aspirants under the Barug-PDP Laban, is expected to file his COC on Friday, October 8, the last day of the filing of COC for the May 2022 elections. (WBS)
