THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released an initial P1 billion to assist affected local government units (LGUs) in addressing the adverse effects and damage caused by Typhoon Odette (Rai).

The P1 billion financial assistance will cover the LGUs recently placed under a State of Calamity by President Rodrigo Duterte, including those in Central Visayas, the bank said in a statement Monday, Dec. 27, 2021.

Western Visayas would receive the bulk of the assistance at P207.25 million; followed by

Central Visayas, which would receive P188.31 million; Mimaropa, P171.57 million; Caraga Region, P167.38 million; Eastern Visayas, P142.50 million; and Northern Mindanao, P122.99 million.

The DBM said it came up with the allocations for the regions based on the report of the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center on the number of affected families and persons and on damage incurred on infrastructure and agriculture sectors.

The total funding requirement will be released directly by the Bureau of Treasury to the concerned LGUs through their respective authorized government servicing banks. (CTL / PR)
