A MAN with alleged drug links was the second person killed by an unidentified gunman in just four days in Sitio Campo 5, Barangay Manipis, Talisay City, Cebu on Sunday morning, Feb. 23, 2020.
The murder victim was identified as Terencio Cabahug, a native of San Fernando town.
A team from the Talisay City Emergency Medical Services tried to revive him, but they failed.
On Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, a man was shot death in Campo 5. The man, who remains unidentified, was thrown out of a black van. Someone inside the vehicle shot him several times.
The Talisay City Police Station received a report about a lifeless man sprawled by the side of the road at 6:40 a.m. Sunday.
Maj. Gerard Ace Pelare, Talisay City police chief, said a Campo 5 resident saw the murder.
The witness was walking by the side of the road when he saw two men across the road. One was later identified as Cabahug. The other man was on board a parked motorcycle, while Cabahug was standing. They were arguing, according to the witness.
When the witness looked behind him, he saw the man on the motorcycle shoot Cabahug several times. The witness ran away.
Initial investigation showed the victim had been involved in the illegal drug trade. He could have been killed for selling shabu in a territory controlled by a rival group, said Pelare.
Cabahug had been renting a room in Tabunok, a barangay in the urban center of Talisay City.
As a result of the two murders in four days, Pelare decided to deploy police officers to patrol in Manipis. He will also tap barangay tanods.
“We will focus on solving these killings. We have a team to check on these incidents,” Pelare said. (FMD & BBT / KAL)
