MUNTINLUPA City, Philippines – The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) made a surprise inspection inside Buildings 5, 9 and 13 of the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) today, June 13, in Muntinlupa City.
The massive operation dubbed as “Oplan Ukay Ukay” was led by BuCor Chief Undersecretary Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa together with members of the PNP’s Special Operations Group, BuCor’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, and the PNP Special Action Force (SAF.)
The three buildings were just among the 14 buildings inside the NBP Compound that house more than 18,000 inmates.
BuCor’s Chief PIO PSInsp. Eusebio Del Rosario said the operation seized several improvised deadly weapons, construction tools, cellular phones and some gambling materials though he added that the current haul was minimal as compared to those confiscated in the previous operations.
BuCor is now investigating the owners of the seized weapons who are subject to sanctions. They will face cancellation of visiting privileges and downgrade or revocation of good conduct and time allowances. – Asher Cadapan Jr. / Marje Pelayo
