Deon Motors kept their undefeated record intact as they routed the Fighter Fifty, 94-74, in the 1st Mayor Michael Rama Basketball Invitational League 2022 on Monday at the Cebu City Sports Institute.
Deon Motors took control early and raced off to a 17-point lead at halftime, 47-30. They didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal and even pushed their lead to a high of 23, 67-44, before cruising to their third win in as many games in this brief but prize-rich tournament.
Four players scored in double-figures for Deon Motors led by the 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists of current San Beda guard, Gab Cometa. Versatile wingmen Luigi Gabisan and Kenny Rogers Rocacurva had 16 markers each while Steve Castro had 11 points.
San Beda big man Clifford Jopia almost had a double-double with 12 rebounds and seven points.
Eliud Poligrates led Fighter Fifty with 15 points but made just six of his 18 attempts from the floor. They remained winless in two games.
In the other game, Truck N’ Trail Transport Services won their second game in a row with a merciless 118-78 win over Court General. Truck N’ Trail now has a 2-1 card while Court General dropped to 0-2.
Truck N’ Trail was ahead by just two after the first period but suddenly took their game up another notch in the second, where they exploded for 37 points to establish a huge 61-40 lead. It was all Truck N’ Trail from that point resulting in the 40-point victory.
University of San Carlos sharpshooter Froilan Mangubat produced 21 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while Dyll Roncal added 17.
Shane “The Game” Menina had a masterful time setting up his teammates all game long and finished with 13 assists, to go with his 15 points.
Alwyn Aguirre also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, even as RJ Dinolan and Bernie Bregondo chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. (JNP)
