CITY Savings Bank Inc. (CitySavings) together with nine other Aboitiz firms, including the Aboitiz Foundation, was recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd) for their valuable contribution and support to the Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) during the agency’s Virtual Partners’ Appreciation event on May 14, 2021.

The event recognized stakeholders and key partnership initiatives that helped the DepEd fulfill its mandate to provide equal access and improve the quality of basic education, ensuring that no Filipino learner would be left behind.

“Your continued support has been a source of inspiration to us as we strive to respond to the call of the constitution for quality education for all learners,” said Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.

In 2020, CitySavings was at the forefront in supporting DepEd’s programs to ensure that basic quality education continues despite the challenges in adapting to the new normal. These include the donation of safety and sanitation essentials through its nationwide implementation of Brigada Eskwela and the provision of various learning and teaching support initiatives to schools, divisions, and regional offices.

“The Department of Education is grateful to our partner CitySavings who has been with us for several years especially during Brigada Eskwela. CitySavings is our partner not only in DepEd Central Office because we have many partnership engagements with our regional, schools divisions and even schools directly getting the assistance and various donated items from CitySavings,” said Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali.

CitySavings also introduced teacher up-skilling programs as part of the bank’s commitment to creating a better, safer and more sustainable learning and teaching environment.

CitySavings focused on webinars to help teachers. The topics include the bank’s core financial literacy and wealth management program “Project Peraparasyon,” and mental wellness program “Project Better Me.”

The bank also engaged in capability training programs to provide tools and upgrade educators’ online teaching skills through “Project Agile: Learning Series for Teachers, and HEROES 2021 (Help Educators Rise to Online Education SY 2020-2021).”

“Advocating for quality education has always been a priority of CitySavings and we are honored to be one of the partners of DepEd. Through the corporate social responsibility initiatives of CitySavings, we can provide support and training resources to help our teachers navigate the new way of teaching and learning,” said City Savings president and chief executive officer Lorenzo Ocampo.
