THE man who admitted killing Christine Lee Silawan will undergo a psychological evaluation to determine his state of mind following his confession.
Renato Llenes will also undergo a polygraph test.
The latter procedure, though, can only be administered in the presence of Llenes’ lawyer, said Police Regional Office 7 Director Debold Sinas.
Although the result of the polygraph test is not admissible in court, Sinas said it will help them determine if Llenes was telling the truth.
After his arrest during a drug bust last Tuesday, April 9, Llenes told police he had killed Silawan and used the Facebook page of “CJ Diaz” to court the 16-year-old girl.
“We want to have him undergo a psychological evaluation because we want to know his state of mind when he confessed to the crime. We will also put him under a polygraph test, but it will be up to his lawyer,” Sinas said in Cebuano.
The Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory will conduct the polygraph test, while the psychological evaluation will be conducted by a government hospital in Cebu.
Although many still don’t believe that Llenas had a hand in Silawan’s death, the police official said they have evidence to prove his guilt.
Police are also trying to convince Silawan’s parents to sign the complaint against Llenes.
Her mother Lourdes refuses to sign the affidavit provided by the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office unless her daughter’s former boyfriend, who was pinpointed by the National Bureau of Investigation 7 as one of the killers, is included in the complaint.
But Sinas said they didn’t have any evidence against the 18-year-old ex-boyfriend.
He also said they couldn’t admit the Public Attorney’s Office’s findings that Silawan was raped before she was murdered since the findings of Dr. Benjamin Lara of the PNP Crime Lab concluded that the girl had not been raped.
“We cannot accommodate her request. First of all, why does she (Lourdes) want the 18-year-old suspect included in the complaint? Why does she want to force the fact that her daughter was raped when the PNP Crime Lab’s findings show otherwise? We will file the case based on the facts we have gathered,” Sinas said.
If Silawan’s parents are dead set on not signing the complaint, police will proceed with the filing of the case and let the local prosecutor determine if there is probable cause to charge Llenes with murder and attempted rape, Sinas said. FROM AYB OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / JKV
