THE Municipal Government of Sibonga ordered the closure of the public market for two days, starting Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, after it recorded 12 additional coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.
Eight of those who tested positive are from Barangay Poblacion, three from Barangay Lamacan and one from Barangay Bahay.
According to Mayor Lionel Bacaltos, the town’s confirmed Covid-19 cases have increased to 50, with 23 active cases, 23 recoveries and four deaths.
The Municipal Government awaits the results of 20 swab samples taken from individuals suspected of being infected with Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease.
Bacaltos told SunStar Cebu that he was forced to close the public market after he found out that some of the new positive patients had gone there.
“We had no choice but to temporarily close the public market. We didn’t want to put other constituents at risk. For now, we have isolated those found positive along with their families. We have one family whose members are all Covid-19 cases, so we placed them under home quarantine. The rest are in our isolation facilities,” Bacaltos said in Cebuano.
The Municipal Government will disinfect the public market and its vicinity before it reopens on Monday, Oct. 5. In the meantime, the mayor urged residents to get their needs in Carcar City or in Barangay Talo-ot in the neighboring town of Argao.
Bacaltos also plans to implement granular lockdowns in barangays with a high number of Covid-19 cases.
