Today, in weird things celebrities do to their genitals, we have vaginal steaming! Yeah, you heard.

Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chrissy Teigen have previously publicly endorsed the procedure, which involves squatting over a mixture of herbs and steaming hot liquid to 'cleanse' the vagina, and totally ignores the fact that one of the vagina's super powers is to self-clean...

In possibly one of the worst stories we've ever heard, a woman in Canada was rushed to hospital recently with second degree burns after trying to do an at-home steam. She had tried to ameliorate a vaginal prolapse by sitting over a pot of herbs and boiling water for 20 minutes, but suffered second degree burns on her cervix and vaginal lining. She was eventually treated with gauze on the affected areas and given antibiotics to stop infection. WHAT FRESH HELL.

Goop, Gwyneth's lifestyle brand, has endorsed what she calls 'v-steaming' or 'yoni-steaming' since as far back as 2015, saying on the brand's website: “You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al... It is an energetic release — not just a steam douche — that balances female hormone levels. If you’re in LA, you have to do it.”

Shockingly, somehow it seems some medical professionals disagree...

Numerous doctors and experts have taken to Twitter to urge people not to bring the fires of hell to their internal organs. The experts cite, among other reasons, the fact that the vagina is a self cleaning organ that does not need cleansing - be that with soap, herby steam or otherwise. Let's also not forget that heating the vagina above it's natural 37°c is a really quick and effective way to help bacteria like candida to thrive. So you're basically giving thrush a red carpet entry.

Final plea from vaginas the world over: please do not steam, boil, sauté, fry, or slow-roast your vagina, and certainly not with herbs. You are not a roast dinner.
