The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed another positive case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country, bringing the total count to six.

In a press briefing on Saturday (March 7), the Health Department said the sixth case is the wife of the previously reported fifth positive case in the country.

The DOH also confirmed that the fifth coronavirus patient is a case of local transmission.

DOH declared code red sub-level 1 as a health measure and response to the local transmission in the country.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had also recommended to President Rodrigo Duterte the declaration of a state of public health emergency “facilitate mobilization of resources, eased processes, including procurement of critical logistics and supplies, and intensifying reporting and quarantine measures.”

The DOH also reminds the public to practice social distance and urges those who may have interacted with the confirmed cases within the past 14 days to immediately call the DOH Hotline (02)8-651-7800 loc 1149-1150 for appropriate referral to a health facility.—AAC (with reports from Aiko Miguel)
