DOLE, DTI to check social distancing, sanitation protocols in workplaces

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 7 urged employers to strictly follow Covid-19 guidelines to prevent transmission in the workplace.

In a Philippine Information Agency 7 virtual press conference, DOLE 7 Director Salome Siaton said they already have a technical working group in tandem with the Department of Trade and Industry to check if companies are following social distancing and other sanitation protocols.

“We will be monitoring them. These guidelines are aligned with the Department of Health (DOH) to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 in the workplace,” Siaton said.

Companies, she said, should increase their employees’ physical and mental resistance as the pandemic continues to endanger the lives of Filipinos and disrupt businesses in the country.

Siaton said companies should emphasize to all workers the everyday actions to stay healthy through eating nutritious and well-cooked food, drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding alcoholic beverages, increasing the body’s resistance by having adequate rest and at least eight hours of sleep and exercising regularly.

Companies are also encouraged to provide free medicines and vitamins, and attend to workers who need counseling.

Reducing transmission of Covid-19 through extensive sanitation and disinfection protocols like wearing of masks, observing social distancing, conducting health checks and constant disinfection must be followed.

Moreover, DOLE encouraged companies to continue implementing alternative work arrangements such as working-hour shifts and work from home schemes to ensure safety of employees.

Handling suspected case

In the event that a worker shows Covid-19 symptoms, the worker shall immediately proceed to the isolation room designated in the workplace.

Clinic personnel attending to the worker should wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Company protocols in the transport of the suspected Covid-19 case and PCR testing must be followed. Decontamination of the workplace must be done right away.

The employer shall also provide the DOLE through its regional office and the DOH a monthly reporting of illness, diseases and injuries of employees using the DOLE work accident/illness report form. (JOB)
