Don't pay contractors to restore power to homes, Visayan Electric warns

THE Visayan Electric Company warned individuals against paying contractors to re-energize their houses, saying it entails safety issues that may put lives and properties in danger.

The electric utility firm in a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, said it “does not collect fees for energization or repair of collapsed poles or downed lines.”

“If there are personnel who offer energization/repair for a fee, please report immediately to 230-8326 or send us a message through our Facebook page,” it said.

In addition, despite heavy rains experienced in Cebu on Wednesday, Dec. 29, Visayan Electric said restoration efforts continue, rain or shine.

At present, the electric company has a total manpower of 725 personnel, 216 are organic, 343 are contractors, 166 distribution utilities from their sister company Davao Light, Manila Electric Company and others.

Forty-four personnel from other distribution utilities around the country arrived this week and more are expected to come.

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." In this time of crisis, Visayan Electric appreciates all the help we are currently getting from other distribution utilities from all over the country,” the firm said in its Facebook post.

These are the DUs that are currently helping Visayan Electric in its restoration of power in Cebu.
