Anger over holidaymakers 'saving spaces' for each other on popular beach

Holidaymakers have been “saving spaces” for their friends by parking over two bays at a popular beach, according to furious residents.

Ryan Mortimer, who lives in Dorset, said he had witnessed “inconsiderate” parking near the pier in Boscombe.

He captured one car parked across two bays so that the driver could save a space for his friend.

Mortimer said "lots of people were arguing with them about saving the space" and also claims the driver stayed in this position for more than two hours, despite anger from other drivers trying to find a space.

Posting about the incident on social media, Mortimer wrote: "Car parked on Boscombe Undercliffe Drive like this for over an hour.

"'We are reserving a space' that’s the response I got.”

He added: "It was over two hours in the end until their friend arrived.

“Lots of people were arguing with them about saving the space but they didn’t care."

The incident comes as people flock to the coast to soak up the summer sunshine – meaning many tourists and residents alike are forced to scramble for parking spaces by the beach.
