Popular streaming platform Netflix revealed on Friday (10 December) that the much-awaited second season, or Book 2, of DOTA: Dragon's Blood will be releasing soon on 6 January 2022.

DOTA: Dragon's Blood premiered on 25 March 2021 and follows the adventures of iconic Dota 2 heroes Davion the Dragon Knight and Mirana the Princess of the Moon.

Other heroes such as Invoker, Terrorblade, and Luna also feature prominently in the show.

DOTA: Dragon's Blood quickly became a hit among longtime Dota 2 fans and newcomers to the game alike, entering the Top 10 list of most-watched series on Netflix in 47 different regions such as the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, among others.

Dota 2 developer Valve Software then announced on 19 April that the anime was greenlit for a second season by Netflix.

During The International 10 (TI10) — the latest iteration of Dota 2's annual world championship tournament — Valve also premiered a teaser for Book 2 of DOTA: Dragon's Blood that revealed another Dota 2 hero, Lina the Slayer, will be joining the cast for the show's second season.

In addition, the Book 2 teaser for DOTA: Dragon's Blood also revealed that Marci, an original character from the show, would be joining the Dota 2 roster as a fully-fledged hero. Marci was then officially released in the game on 1 November as part of the 7.30e patch.

All episodes of DOTA: Dragon's Blood Book 2 will be available upon release. While Netflix has yet to confirm the number of episodes for the new season, it is expected to have the same number as Book 1, which had eight episodes.

DOTA: Dragon's Blood is being produced by Ashley Edward Miller, known for his work in X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Black Sails, in collaboration with Valve and is animated by Studio MIR, the studio behind Avatar: The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
