DPWH plans SLEx-Cavitex link

Manila, Philippines --- Traffic congestion along existing road networks between Cavite and Laguna will soon be reduced with the construction of an expressway that will link the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) and Cavite Expressway (Cavitex).

The planned Cavite-Laguna (CALA) Expressway will be the third infrastructure project under the Aquino administration that will be executed through public-private partnership (PPP). According to the PPP Center, the project is estimated to cost P43.33 billion.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the CALA Expressway covers a 28.9-kilometer section from Kawit to Aguinaldo Highway in Silang Cavite and another 18.1-kilometer section from Aguinaldo Highway to SLEx Mamplasan exit in Laguna.

DPWH invited firms to bid for the contract to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the four-lane 47.02-kilometer at-grade tollway last Tuesday.

Aside from decongesting traffic in Cavite and Laguna, the CALA Expressway also aims to reduce travel time from Cavite and Laguna to Metro Manila and improve the competitiveness of Calabarzon Area as an investment destination.

"The CALA Expressway is aimed to provide a more convenient and faster route from Metro Manila to the Calabarzon Region," the DPWH said.

Interested bidders are invited to pre-qualify for by submitting requirements on June 10. Prequalification documents worth P100,000 are available for prospective bidders.
