THE Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) will start to offer free “drive through/walk through” Covid-19 testing on Friday, July 24, 2020.
It will be the first ever drive through/walk through swabbing and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR) testing booths established outside Metro Manila for suspected Covid-19 patients.
The new service is part of a program of VSMMC’s subnational laboratory in line with the Department of Health’s expanding testing guildeines.
VSMMC is Cebu’s only tertiary public hospital.
Lawyer Rey Cris Panugaling, head of VSMMC’s Information, Communication and Strategy Management Office, said they are targeting to test at least 200 people a day.
Panugaling said the drive-through service can accomodate 10 clients in an hour; while the walk-through testing service can accomodate 20 clients per hour.
There will be no lunch breaks to ensure that everyone who wants to be tested will be accommodated, Panugaling said.
However, Panugaling clarified that those who want to be tested must first register online at the VSMMC website to get an appointment.
The appointment is free of charge.
Results of the Covid-19 tests will be made available only after four days as the VSMMC laboratory prioritizes its current load of swab test samples from various hospitals and local government units (LGU) that need verification, Panugaling said.
The results will be sent through email.
Should a person be found positive of Covid-19, the LGU where he or she comes from will receive a copy of the test results so that local officials can immediately conduct contact tracing.
The drive through and walk through Covid-19 testing will start at 9 a.m. on Friday until 3 p.m.
The service will be available from Monday to Friday.
Patients with vehicles and who already have an official appointment can enter and exit VSMMC through its front gate at B. Rodriguez Street. (HBL / JKV)
