ONLY 46 people availed themselves of the free drive-through/walk-through swab testing service offered by the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) during its first day on Friday, July 24, 2020.
The number is just a fraction of the hospital’s target to secure around 180 to 200 swab samples within six hours a day.
Rey Cris Panugaling, VSMMC's Information, Communications and Strategy Management head, said they had yet to determine how many of the 46 people availed of the drive-through service and how many opted for the walk-through.
About 400 people registered online to get the free Covid-19 tests offered by VSMMC.
Hospital officials led by VSMMC medical chief Dr. Gerardo Aquino formally launched the new service at around 9 a.m. on Friday. Aquino himself availed of the service during the launching.
The new service, the first outside Metro Manila, is part of the Department of Health’s efforts to conduct mass testing.
Those who want to avail themselves of the service must first submit an online application through VSMMC's Facebook page to secure an appointment.
After the patient is swabbed, results of his or her tests will be sent through email after four days.
The free service is available from Mondays to Fridays. (HBL)
