TWO separate anti-illegal drug operations in Cebu City on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, resulted in the death of a suspected drug pusher and the confiscation of suspected shabu worth P6.8 million.
Operatives of the Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Visayas arrested Wilfredo Flores, 40, and his wife Almera, 41, inside a parking lot in a mall in Brgy. Hipodromo during a P6.8-million buy-bust in the morning of Aug. 20. (See photo on page 1)
Also arrested with the couple was Rabe Allego, 28.
Around one kilo of suspected shabu placed in nine medium packs were recovered from the three suspects.
Police Lt. Col. Jovit Culaway, PDEG Visayas head, said they have been monitoring the couple’s movements for two weeks before initiating the buy-bust.
Culaway said the couple from Liloan town are considered high value drug targets.
Aside from the illegal drugs, police also confiscated the couple’s car that was used for their transactions.
A few hours later, a suspected drug pusher was killed after he attempted to fight off operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA 7) during an anti-illegal drug operation in Sitio Lubi, Brgy. Luz, in the same city.
Operatives of PDEA 7 identified the fatality as Rosio Juablar Jr., a resident of the area.
Levi Ortiz, PDEA 7 director, told reporters that Juablar was identified as a high-value drug target.
Ortiz said that during their operation, PDEA 7 personnel caught Juablar in the act of selling illegal drugs outside his house.
When operatives attempted to arrest him, Juablar immediately ran inside his house to get his gun and flee to another area.
During their case, Juablar attempted to fight off PDEA 7 operatives but was gunned down by the anti-drug team.
Juablar was immediately brought to a nearby hospital but he died before arriving there.
Personnel of the PNP Crime Laboratory 7 recovered suspected shabu worth P340,000 from Juablar’s possession. (BBT / JKV)
