A DRUNKEN mechanic drowned after the motorcycle he was driving fell off the seaport in Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete in southern Cebu past 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022.

The fatality was identified as Roselito Villaflor, who was 48 and a resident of Barangay Bogo, Argao. Villaflor, an employee of the Philippine Mining Service Corp., was identified through his identification card found in his wallet, according to officer Rex Peloñio, an investigator at the Dalaguete Police Station.

In a separate interview, officer Pablo Rellen Jr. said Villaflor had been drinking with his friends since Saturday afternoon, Aug. 6.

Villaflor’s friends advised him against driving his motorcycle when he decided to go home on Sunday morning; however, their advice was not heeded.

Witnesses told the police that Villaflor had driven the motorcycle at full throttle, and he was unable to control the two-wheeled vehicle that resulted in the accident.

“Nagtimpasaw siya uban sa motorsiklo. Gitabangan sa mga tawo, unya kusog man ang sulog sa tubig nalumos patay,” Rellen said.

(He fell into the sea with his motorcycle. People tried to help him, but the current was strong. That’s why he drowned.)

Personnel from the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Dalaguete applied first aid on Villaflor but he already had no vital signs. (GPL / KAL, GDC)
