THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Bohol has conducted the first and second run of the Diskwento Caravan in the towns of Ubay and Talibon in Bohol on Friday, January 7, 2022.

The caravan offered basic and prime commodities as well as construction and hardware materials.

Most of the products sold included but were not limited to canned goods, instant noodles, condiments, bath and detergent soaps, instant coffee, powdered milk, bottled drinking water, bread, rice, candles, galvanized iron sheets, plywoods and nails.

These are the first and second Diskwento Caravans scheduled for this month since Typhoon Odette struck the province on December 16, 2021.

DTI Bohol is set to conduct the next run of the caravan on Saturday, January 8 in Inabanga, Bohol.

The Diskwento Caravan aims to provide consumers with access to quality and reasonably priced products and services in accordance with or even lower than the current prevailing prices which is a big help, especially in this time of calamity.

The program is in partnership with the manufacturers and distributors of basic necessities and prime commodities and the local government units (LGUs) in the Central Visayas region.

Series of Diskwento Caravan and Rolling Stores are regularly being conducted by the DTI during a calamity in the country, some of which are done jointly with the local government units in cooperation with micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) suppliers, to ensure the supply of basic necessities and prime commodities priced in accordance with or lower than the suggested retail prices or price freeze.

These also provide markets for MSME manufacturers of basic necessities to sell their products as well as assist consumers who are generally in the lower income bracket by providing them with products at discounted prices.

The activities in Ubay and Talibon were spearheaded by the DTI Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations Asteria Caberte and the DTI Bohol Provincial Director Maria Soledad Balistoy with the Ubay and Talibon LGUs as well as the Philippine National Police.

Also present during the event were partners from Leonardo Distributors Inc., BQ Builderware, Puyat Steel Corp., Wilcon Depot and Hyundai Motors. (KOC WITH PR)
