CEBU Fifth District Rep. Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco distributed over P10 million in financial assistance to public utility vehicle drivers and students affected by the local coronavirus epidemic.
The legislator handed out P4 million to 1,002 drivers in the Municipality of Compostela on Saturday, July 11, 2020.
The activity was reported on Frasco’s Facebook page.
Frasco said the crisis brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has hurt the habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire), trisikad, tricycle, multicab and van-for-hire drivers. Community quarantine imposed by the government to slow down Covid-19 infections has restricted movement of people and public transportation.
Frasco also gave P30,000 to the principal of Basak Elementary School in Compostela for the repair of the photocopying machine and installation of internet. This is in preparation for the incoming school year’s “new normal.”
Frasco said the assistance distributed to the community was not from the government’s funds but from the Frasco Foundation.
Team Frasco also distributed P6.3 million worth of scholarships to 1,611 students from the municipalities in the fifth district.
In the Camotes Islands, 561 students from the municipalities of San Francisco, Poro, Pilar and Tudela received P2.3 million in scholarships last July 4, aiding their enrollment and other school needs.
Last July 7, a total of P2 million in scholarship grants were given to 463 students from the Municipalities of Borbon, Sogod and Catmon.
In Danao City and the Municipalities of Carmen and Compostela, 587 students received P2 million in scholarships.
The scholarship grants are part of the continuing commitment of Team Frasco to prioritize the education of the youth in the fifth district. Frasco’s wife is Liloan Mayor Ma. Esperanza Christina Frasco.
The distribution of the scholarship was delayed due to the imposition of the community quarantine, which limits public movement. (KFD from PR)
