President Rodrigo Duterte has assured Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), especially those in the Middle East, that the government will provide assistance amid the travel ban due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) threat.
“Any Filipino for that matter, maski saan. Wherever he may be, if he wants to go home here, to his country, we are duty bound to bring him back to the Philippines,” he said on Monday (March 9) during the Interagency Task Force (IATF) on COVID-19 briefing in Malacanang.
Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia recently implemented a travel ban to the Philippines to prevent the spread of the virus in their own respective countries.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will grant monetary assistance to the affected OFWs and to more than 4,000 workers affected with the recent retrenchments of 66 local establishments.—AAC
