First he wanted to depose Satan in hell, now President Rodrigo Duterte says he will be looking for beautiful women once he steps down from office next month.
According to ABS-CBN, Duterte made the tongue in cheek remarks on Thursday (May 26) during a speech at the Central Post Office Building in Manila. "Ang trabaho ko na lang ngayon magtingin ng magandang babae (My job now is to look for beautiful women)," said the president.
The 77-year-old added, "Okay na ako. Tingin lang, hindi ako naga-abduct, hindi ako naga-ano, basta tingin lang kasi matanda na." (I am okay. I will like to stare at them. I don't abduct or anything, I just want to look at them because I am already old.)
Duterte, a father of four and grandfather of eight, has spoken openly of his infidelity while married to his first wife. However, he added that he had told his current wife Cielito "Honeylet" Avanceña not to worry.
"Alam man ng asawa ko ‘yan kasi mahilig man gyud ako magtingin ng magagandang babae. Sabi ko huwag kang — hanggang diyan-diyan lang ako. Wala na akong balak na… Pero hindi ko na lang sabihin kasi magkabungguan tayo dito." (My wife knows that I really like to look at pretty women. I told her [don't [get jealous] I cannot do anything beyond that. I do not have any other plans. I will not add anything more because I might get in trouble.)
Duterte has often been accused by feminists and advocates of misogyny.
Last January, he said that women are not fit to be president, given that the "emotional set-up" for the post is different. Duterte, a former mayor of Davao City, has also joked that the high incidence of rape in Davao is due to the beautiful women there.
