LAGUNA, Philippines – A senior high school student from Malayan College was declared dead on the spot after she was hit by a train of the Philippine National Railway (PNR) in Barangay Banay-Banay, Cabuyao, Laguna on Thursday (November 8).

The victim was identified as Sofia Jully Postanes, a resident of St. Joseph Subdivision in Barangay Marinig.

The teenager was seen crossing the rail tracks towards a tricycle terminal on her way to school.

Based on the initial investigation, the girl didn’t notice the approaching train because she had her earphones on.

The girl sustained severe head injury that caused her death.

The PNR management is yet to comment on the incident. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Sherwin Culubong)
