Earthquake!

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur - A 4.8-magnitude earthquake rocked some areas in Ilocos provinces late night on Monday but did not cause any damage to property, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Tuesday.

Phivolcs Researcher Porferio De Peralta described it as a moderately strong earthquake which occurred at 11:43 p.m.

The epicenter of the tremor was 10 kilometers southwest of Paoay, Ilocos Norte with a depth of 1 kilometer.

It was strongest felt at Intensity 3 in Currimao, Badoc and Pinili towns in Ilocos Norte. Intensity 2 of the quake was felt in Sinait and Vigan City, both in Ilocos Sur as well as in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

De Peralta said that the quake was tectonic in origin and had no aftershocks.
