Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu has urged Filipino voters to cast their votes in the May 9 presidential election.

Speaking to Rappler on Tuesday (April 26), the Indian beauty queen was asked what advice she would give to Filipino voters. "Vote for your representative. You have the power to change the system. You have your own viewpoints. Be very wise and make sure that you vote," she responded.

Sandhu, 22, will be a special guest at the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) 2022 coronation night on Saturday, where reigning MUPH titleholder Beatrice Luigi Gomez will crown her successor. Gomez finished in the top 5 in Miss Universe 2021.

Both India and the Philippines are beauty pageant powerhouses. The latter has won Miss Universe a total of four times, most recently in 2018 with Catriona Gray crowned. The former has won the competition three times, including in 1994 when the Philippines hosted the pageant.

Asked about visiting the Philippines as an Indian beauty queen, Sandhu said, "It’s like history repeating itself, and it’s just so beautiful to see how Filipinos have been sharing so much love and support."
